Job Purpose

Responsible for executing and driving sales and a distribution strategy within Sub Saharan Africa region. Operating in a matrix organisation, independence and being a self starter is vital to be successful in this role which involves frequent travel.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a sales plan for Sub Saharan Africa with focus on distribution via South Africa.
• Develop and execute a distribution strategy for the region.
• Work closely with local distributor but also focus on end customer interaction as a priority (i.e. Vodacom, MTN).
• Work closely with UK director to plan resources and financial expenses to achieve the greatest result.
• Meet and exceed sales targets for the region as a whole.

General Responsibilities

• To devise the sales and marketing strategy covering retail channel, primarily encompassing South Africa.
• To assist the set up of a roadmap of all relevant devices based on a full appraisal of the Group’s needs and aspirations, in competition with other handset and device manufacturers.
• To negotiate successfully and deliver the sales plan, including managing propositions, pricing and specification.
• To ensure proper and active relationships with customers relevant to the procurement and commercialisation of devices.
• To ensure all product and marketing programmes are duly delivered within the framework of effective life cycle management.
• To ensure that the pipeline of new products and initiatives increases and maximises the volume and profitability of my client’s activities.
• To liaise effectively with other sales team members and product managers/developers in order to guarantee consistent fit with customers’ activities with the remainder of my client’s products and propositions.

Any other relevant information

The flexibility to travel is also expected in the successful candidate, where 2 weeks monthly will be spent in South Africa in addition to long stays.

Person Specification

• Minimum 5 years track record of sales/account management, ideally encompassing mobile devices, or at least consumer technology such as PDAs or similar (willing to consider candidates with a strong FMCG background)
• Ideally a good mix of distribution and mobile operator account management ideally within the Sub Saharan Africa
• Considerable exposure to the mobile telecoms market in order to understand and exploit fully the market structures and the roles of the various stakeholders within the consumer proposition
• Demonstrable record of maintaining and developing key accounts to achieve win/win partnerships and manage programmes and activities which tie the channels in.
• Good commercial acumen and gravitas at this level.
• A track record of building and delivering a retail sales strategy, as opposed to being tasked merely with maximising sales from a single or range of key accounts.
• Self-motivated, customer-focused, result-oriented
• Sound interpersonal and communications skills
• Local market contacts a definite advantage
• Educated to degree level
• Local market contacts within South Africa an definite advantage
• Based in the UK but willing to travel for minimum 2 weeks per month with long stays in South Africa
• This role is focused on the Southern Africa region and requires someone who can work seamlessly with colleagues across different countries and who can work with specialisations such as Sales, RFQ's RFP's, project management and services.
